Update: All Clear After Neabsco Elementary Fire Alarm

The students and staff are all safe.

Update 3:50 p.m. The school was declared all clear. Prince William County Fire and Rescue personnel determined that the building's smoke detector had malfunctioned, causing the fire alarm to go off. Original post: Neabsco Elementary School was evacuated due to a fire alarm Monday afternoon. Units from Prince William County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the school, according to the Prince William County Public Schools Facebook page. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire alarms to go off. The students and staff from the school are all safe. Patch will follow up more information when it is available.

Home heating fires are a leading cause of home fires and fatalities, says PWC Fire and Rescue

Nothing is better on a cold winter day than sitting in front of a fireplace sipping hot chocolate. But according to the National Fire Protection Association, December through February is also peak time for house fires caused by home heating devices. The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue issued some reminder safety tips for when using alternative heating sources. Follow these tips and you will have a warm, enjoyable, and safe winter.
