Dar AlNoor Islamic Community Center: A Place of Prayer and Learning

People from around Northern Virginia come to the Dar AlNoor Islamic Community Center for education, community events and prayers.

Upon entering the community center I was greeted with dead silence, empty halls and a sign stating in bold lettering that shoes are not allowed past a certain point. Removing my shoes, I explored the building to find a handful of people praying. I was then greeted by Mohammad Mehboob, President of the Muslim Association of Virginia, a middle-aged man who looks you in the eyes when speaking and when spoken to. The Dar AlNoor Islamic Community Center, built in 2005, looks brand new. The main hall is carved in clean shining marble tiles, the prayer hall sports long seamless Mediterranean carpeting, and the auditorium is full of chairs, tables, books, podiums and even a foosball table.
