Vikings' baseball has four players moving on to college ball
A winning percentage of .700 is certainly a season to be proud of; however, Woodbridge Senior High School baseball (14-6) had trouble winning when it counted most. Their final lost occurred at the district semi-finals against Osbourn Park, who had defeated the Vikings twice during the regular season. “Our greatest challenge was being consistent offensively and having production throughout our line-up,” said head coach Jason Ritenour. “[Next year] we need to improve offensively and develop more pitching.” Woodbridge lost seven graduating seniors this year, four of whom will play ball in college next season. Tyler Thomas will attend Shepherd University; Brandon Gum, George Mason; Justin Petock, Bridgewater College; and Danny McCormick, …

Seasons may have ended short, but student accolades are plentiful
Gar-Field Senior High School boys' lacrosse may not have qualified for this season's Cardinal District tournament, but for first year head coach Bruce Buskey, the 6-8 regular season record was a success. Especially since Buskey had never even played the game of lacrosse before. “I spent many Sundays in preseason and during the season watching videos and reading about sets, defense and drills,” said Buskey. The team's ability to complete several come-from-behind wins, coupled with the fact that the Indians defeated Forest Park for the first time in school history, gives Buskey reason to be optimistic about next season, despite the fact that he will lose 14 graduating seniors. Of those graduating are leading scorers LaRon Hinton—who has …

Team more versatile than coach Gray expected
With only a third of the 2011-2012 men's basketball season on record, it is entirely too early to make predictions, however one thing is certain: Gar-Field is versatile—unpredictable on offense and adaptable on defense—and the Indians used that versatility Friday to defeat Patriot for the second time this season, 82-54. “Absolutely not!” said head coach Andy Gray, when asked if he expected his team to be playing as well as they have at this point in the season. “We have only one starter back, we're not real deep and we're not physically imposing at all. Who would've thought that we'd be where we are right now.” Gray, who has a reputation of being modest when talking about his team, has lead Gar-Field (8-0, 2-0) to 12 consecutive regular …

Wilson hoping to return next year
For first year volleyball coach Kelli Wilson the task of coaching the Gar-Field varsity team unexpectedly fell in her lap. A week before August tryouts new Gar-Field Athletic Director Michael Payne approached Wilson, who he knew and trusted, and asked if she was up for the challenge. Wilson, who was hesitant at first, now looks back and knows that she made the right choice, and that her life has become more fulfilled as a result. “I became more aware of how to deal with personal situations not just volleyball situations,” said Wilson. “My main goal was to give the girls a positive experience and get them to learn something beyond volleyball. It's about life and how to be a better person. Each week I would mentally ask myself 'did I do 100 …
