Residents of Olender Court off of Spriggs Road are celebrating the decision by the Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday not to approve a request to bring a commercial area to their neighborhood. The Board of County Supervisors voted unanimously at Tuesday’s meeting to indefinitely defer the requested rezoning for the property on Spriggs Road, just north of Hylton High School, owned by Samia Harris. Harris owns the Prince William Academy that stands on the property, but said the school is losing money. She has been trying to rezone the property—which requires an accompanying change in the county’s Comprehensive Plan—to neighborhood commercial in order to be able to bring businesses to the property. “The building needed upgrade and I was …

Petition asks the board to cease policy of allowing last-minute plan changes in order for public to have time to read them.
The Dale City Civic Association is among several community organizations in Prince William County preparing to present a petition to the Board of County Supervisors against the practice of allowing last-minute changes to proposed development actions. The leaders of four community organizations—the Lake Ridge Occoquan Civic Association, the Mid-County Civic Association, the Dale City Civic Association and the Occoquan District Lane-Use Advisory Committee—signed the petition. The groups, under the umbrella organization Federation of Community Associations for Land Use, will present the petition to the Board at the evening meeting on Tuesday.
