Helping nearly 600 adults  with a staff of only three people means LVA-PW relies heavily on volunteers. This weekend, the organization is hosting a training session for those who want to help.

The training consists of a , from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a three-hour session on July 23. Both sessions are necessary to become a certified adult literacy tutor.

Volunteers attending the training will learn several techniques for teaching literacy skills to adults, including how to plan lessons around a student's unique goals. After the training, each volunteer tutor will be matched with an adult who wishes to learn or improve basic reading and writing skills.

David Lynch, one of LVA-PW's as of April, said he got the opportunity to see the tutoring make a difference in his first student's life after only two sessions.
