Weekend Planner: Cornhole Tournament, Park Tours, Sales

Check out some things to do in the area this weekend.

Thank goodness for some relief from the heat! Looking for something to do around town this weekend? Here are some options:

Manassas Park:
Come out and support the Manassas Park Cougars football team at on Saturday.

Participate in the MPHS Football Cornhole Tournament from 1-7 p.m. The entry fee is $20 per team, and the winning team gets a Cougars cornhole set. Team registration begins at 1 p.m. and the tourney starts at 2 p.m.

Woodbridge:

At there are several family-friendly events going on this weekend. On Saturday, register for the canoe tour on Powell’s Creek.

Register at the Visitor Center a day in advance and then meet at the park’s canoe launch at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Park ranger Sarah Percival said the tour will showcase wildlife and marsh plants.

Fees for the tour are $9 per person, or $6 when reserving for groups of four or more.

Sunday, take a hike through Bushey Point Trail in the park. There will be two hiking sessions: one from 11 a.m. to noon and the other from 3-4 p.m. Meet next to the Marina parking lot, where the ranger will show you historical and ecological points of interest.

Manassas:
 The back-to-school favorite sale started Tuesday and runs until Sunday. Hours vary, so be sure to for exact times, the sale will be held at the county fairgrounds at 10624 Dumfries Rd, Manassas, VA.

Occoquan:

the summer doldrums during their Lemonade Yard Sale on July 20-21.

Shops across town will feature great deals and offer lemonade to keep customers refreshed. "Look for a yellow balloon in front of participating shops," a flier read.

The Lemonade Yard Sale will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days.

Dale City:
A weekend staple in eastern Prince William County, the commuter lot is open every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April to November.

Nearby:

Clifton, VA: The fourth annual Clifton Film Festival, featuring talent from Robinson Secondary School students to experienced filmmakers alike, takes place this weekend.

The festival this year also features a daytime showing starting at 4 p.m., with evening showings beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd. Tickets are $5 for the day showing, or $10 for the evening showing. To purchase online, visit the festival’s website.
