Hylton Set for District Championship Matchup With Potomac

Hylton boys basketball head coach Barry Smith said he expects a tough matchup against the Potomac Panthers in the Cardinal District final on Friday.

The Hylton High School boys basketball team will take on the Potomac Panthers Friday night in the Cardinal District Championship game. 

Hylton comes into the district final after in a low-scoring overtime thriller on Tuesday.

Hylton lost both of its regular season games against Potomac after . Hylton head coach Barry Smith said he doesn’t expect those earlier losses to have any effect on the game.

“We know them pretty well and they know us pretty well,” Smith said. “It’s just a matter of us executing and doing the things we need to do to be successful.”

Bulldogs star player senior Kendall Hargrove left the last game against Potomac with a cut above his eye, contributing the Hylton’s late meltdown that allowed Potomac to win from behind. Smith said Hargrove is fine and the whole team is ready to go.

The keys for Hylton will be defense, 3-point shooting and physical toughness, according to Smith.

Potomac senior guard Bryan Allison, senior forward Jordan McCain and junior forward Josh Brown are all excellent players, Smith said. “Josh Brown is a monster on the boards,” he said.

Smith said Potomac is a solid opponent with good players all around. “They have all the pieces to the puzzle, we’ve just got to figure out how to crack it,” he said. “They don’t have too many kinks in their armor.
