Minnieville Students Get the Red Carpet Treatment

Minnieville Elementary School rewarded its students for their achievements with an "Academic Oscars" ceremony.

Students at got a taste of celebrity recently as the school rolled out the red carpet for its annual "Academic Oscars" award day.

Awards were handed out to fourth and fifth grade students who passed last year's Standards of Learning tests at an advanced level. "The kids absolutely love it," said school Principal Nathaniel Provencio. "The kids got to wear sunglasses and be cool and listen to pop music."

Kids walking the red carpet to receive their awards got cheers and high-fives from their classmates. "It was exciting to hear all of the people clapping for me when I was walking the red carpet," fourth-grader Stephanie Annis said in a news release from the county. "It made me feel like a real celebrity."
