Icy Roads Delay Schools, Government

Prince William County Schools are on a two-hour delay Monday and federal government offices will open at 11.

Potentially icy roads mean that Prince William County Schools are on a two-hour delay Monday morning, and federal government offices will open at 11 a.m.

The delays were announced due to a freezing rain advisory from the national weather service expiring at 6 a.m.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management issued a delay for Monday morning recommending that employees stay off of the roads until 9 a.m. Federal government offices will open at 11 a.m. on Monday. Employees who commute to the office will be granted excused absence for the delayed arrival. Employees have the option to use unscheduled leave and/or unscheduled telework for the entire workday in lieu of a delayed arrival.

A final weather delay for Fort Belvoir will be decided by 4 a.m. Monday morning, as of Sunday night the base had no change in operating status. Quantico Marine Corps Base is also reporting normal duty times as of 11 p.m. Sunday night. 

Virginia Rail Express is operating on a full schedule Monday.

Virginia Department of Transportation is advising drivers to stay off of the roads until after 10 a.m. Monday. "About 770 trucks are patrolling roads in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, continuously treating icy spots such as ramps, bridges, elevated surfaces and other problem areas," reads a press release.
