Woman Charged With Felony Child Neglect, Marijuana Possession

A Dale City mother is facing felony child neglect charges after her 3-year-old was found wandering in a street. The following arrest information was supplied by the Prince William County police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The mother of a 3-year-old girl who was found wandering in a street Thursday morning faces charges of felony child neglect after police said she left the child at home and returned carrying marijuana and alcohol.

Shamika Koyce Dunn, 21, of 3413 Castle Hill Dr. is charged with felony child neglect, possession of marijuana and drinking in public.

A woman who was on her way to work saw the girl walking in the street near Cherrydale Road and Dale Boulevard around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. The woman called police and stayed with the girl until the police arrived.

The girl guided police to her home in the 3400 block of Castle Hill Drive, where police found the front door standing open. Police said a family member was home at the time, but Dunn, the girl's mother, was not. While police were at the home, Dunn arrived. Police said she was carrying a half-empty bottle of wine and was in possession of marijuana at the time.

Dunn was released on a $1,500 unsecured bond. Her court date was not available.
