Virginia State Police Evacuate NYC-Bound Bus on I-95 Near Dale City

Incident closes down HOV lanes. Male passenger on Greyhound bus from Richmond made threatening comments to other passengers.

Virginia State Police evacuated a Greyhound bus from Richmond bound for New York City Wednesday morning after a male passenger threatened other passengers on the bus, according to a VSP news release.

The incident closed down the HOV lanes on Interstate 95 Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call from the bus at 3:31 a.m. The bus was stopped and police evacuated passengers and the bus driver. The bus was traveling in the HOV lane of Interstate 95 and was stopped near mile marker 156 near Dale City.

The male passenger who made threatening comments initially refused to leave the bus, but was eventually taken into custody. State police boarded the bus and explored it for any suspicious packages.

The bus was cleared to get back on the road at 5:58 a.m. The Virginia State Police said the HOV lane was set to reopen by about 6:30 a.m.

Investigation of the incident is ongoing.
