Teenager Charged with Attempted Murder of Father

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after police say he shot his father in the back of the head while he slept.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after police said he shot his father in the back of the head on Saturday.

The father was asleep when the 17-year-old boy shot him with a handgun, said Prince William County Police spokesman Jonathan Perok. The father was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening. Police said the shooting was the result of unspecified "past disagreements" between the two.

Perok called it surprising that the 49-year-old victim’s injuries were not worse. “Very lucky, to say the least,” Perok said.
