Teenage Victim Defies Armed Robber

One of the robbers fired a gun in the ground before demanding money, but the victim refused to turn over his property.

Two men tried unsuccessfully to rob a Woodbridge teenager Saturday evening, Prince William County Police said.

An 18-year-old man reported at 5:43 p.m. that he and a friend were on the 4600 block of Witaker Place in Dale City, when two unknown men approached them. One of the men showed a handgun and fired a round into the ground, police said. The man demanded that the teenager hand over his property. The victim refused, and the suspects fled on foot.

No injuries were reported and the men did not take any money. The victim was unable to provide a complete description of the robbers.

What would you do if an armed robber told you to hand over money? Would you have reacted differently? Tell us in the comments.

This story leads me to believe that the teen KNEW the gunman. I would tell my kids that the possessions is not worth your life, BUT get a good description so that you can make a full report to the police.

As a retired Special Forces soldier with a concealed carry, the story would have had a different ending.

Like Scott, as a retired MP with concealed carry, the robber would have found himself on the wrong end of the stick, or maybe on the ground, bleeding and waiting for an ambulance.

Scott and RME pretty much summed it up for me too. Bad guys would either be face down with palms up or face down bleeding. The one with the gun, more likely the later of the two for sure especially since he not only brandished but discharged his firearm.

Scott, RME, and Armed & Trained: you all brought to mind the scene in Crocodile Dundee, when Mic comes to NYC and gets accosted by a thug "with a knife", and Mic pulls out of his boot a long thick crocodile dicing knife, stating: "that's not a knife.......THIS is a knife..." :-)

The LEOs of the PWCPD have their hands full. Time for the community to help out the LEOs by reporting suspcious activity and keeping our eyes open. If we let these punks continue to take advantage of citizens not being aware of their surroundings, they will not stop. The worst are the "want-to-be" gang members that commit crimes to earn their place in the gangs. You see something going on, make that call. Take a walk through Potomac Mills Mall one weekend or weekend evening. If you pay attention you will see questionable activity. Joe, glad to hear it brother!
