Super Responsible Sunday

PWC Police remind the public to enjoy Sunday's Super Bowl festivities responsibly.

The Prince William County Police are reminding the public to act responsibly while enjoying the Super Bowl on Sunday. Along with other state and local law enforcement agencies, the Prince William police remind those who will be drinking to designate a sober driver, and ask everyone to help protect their friends and family.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the most dangerous days to drive nationwide due to alcohol-related crashes, according to a police news release. The police department says everyone attending Super Bowl parties should watch out for themselves and others. Some important reminders from the police:

  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast. Pace yourself—eat, take breaks, alternate with nonalcoholic drinks.
  • Designate your sober driver before the party begins and give that person your car keys.
  • If impaired, don’t even think about getting behind the wheel. Ask a sober friend for a ride home; call a cab, friend or family member to come and get you; or stay where you are and sleep it off until you are sober.
  • If you think a friend is about to drive while impaired, take the keys and never let them leave your sight.

Those hosting Super Bowl parties should also take care to help avoid letting drunk drivers on the road:

  • Stop serving alcohol at the end of the third quarter of the game and begin serving coffee and dessert.
  • Be sure all of your guests designate their drivers in advance, or help arrange ride-sharing with sober drivers.
  • Keep the numbers for local cab companies handy, and take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving while impaired.
