Prince William Officer Hospitalized After Accident

The officer has since been released from the hospital. Investigators: The car that hit her cruiser had faulty brakes.

A Prince William County Police officer was injured in a "serious crash" Friday morning due to another car's faulty brakes, according to police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

An off-duty police officer was traveling westbound on Opitz Boulevard when another car traveled through a red light and struck her marked police cruiser, around 4:02 a.m., Perok said. The driver of the 2000 Nissan Maxima was traveling northbound on Gideon Drive.

As a result, the officer lost consciousness, but woke up while still at the scene. She was flown to a local hospital, where she was treated for injuries. She has since been released.
