Police: Woodbridge Man Shot Family Member After Assault

Eric Neil Hummer is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

A Woodbridge man is accused of shooting a family member after he was assaulted. 

Eric Neil Hummer, 56, of Radburn Street in Woodbridge, is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. 

Police responded at 8:02 p.m. Monday to the 16000 block of Radburn Street for a report of a shooting. They found that the 30-year-old male victim, of Woodbridge, was involved in an argument with Hummer. Police said that the argument escalated and the family member injured Hummer's eye.

"Following the assault, the accused retrieved a handgun and shot the victim multiple times," Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the police department, said in a news release. 

The victim had life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Hummer left the home. Officers found him on Indus Drive, where he was arrested after he received medical treatment.
