Police: Woman Shot, Man Assaulted in Dumfries

Police said the incident did not appear to be random.

A woman was shot and a man assaulted in Dumfries Monday evening, Prince William County Police said.

Two victims walked into the rescue station near Graham Court—where the incident took place—to report the shooting, Prince William County Police wrote on their Facebook page. An adult female victim had sustained a gunshot wound to her upper body, while the man been assaulted.

The woman's present condition was unknown as of 6:30 p.m. She was flown to an area hospital. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Graham Park Middle School was placed in secure the building mode as a precaution during a basketball game. Police also established a perimeter around Graham Court shortly before 6 p.m. and asked residents to remain indoors. A police K-9 was called to assist in the search for the suspect. 

"Preliminarily, the shooting does NOT appear to be random and may have stemmed from an incident on Graham Ct.," police wrote
