Police Updates: Robbery, Assault and Battery

Police updates for Friday, July 15. The following information was provided by the Prince William County police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate a conviction.

Two men reported being assaulted and robbed while walking in a shopping center near Dale Boulevard after midnight on Tuesday.

The victims told police they were walking behind the plaza near 4300 Dale Boulevard when three unknown men wearing dark clothing approached them and began to assault them.

One of the victims, a 52-year-old man, was knocked to the ground and had his wallet stolen but received only minor injuries. The other, a 47-year-old man, did not report anything stolen, but was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Prince William County Police are on the lookout for three black males, all reported to be around six feet tall, thin, and between 23 and 25 years old.

A Dale City man was arrested Tuesday and accused of assaulting a couple and spitting on a police officer.

Robert Matthew Morton, 28, of 14112 Madrigal Dr., was charged with with malicious wounding, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, threats to burn, domestic assault and battery, and obstructing police.

Police said the victims, a 52-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, reported that Morton was "acting violent" in front of the residence. Police said Morton assualted the two victims as they tried to get him under control.

When police arrived, they attempted to gain control of Morton. While he was being restrained and transported, Morton spat in the face of an officer, Prince William County Police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

Police said Morton knew the victims. Both of the victims received minor injuries.

Morton was held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 2.
