Police Updates: Man Shoots at Dog; Boy Robbed; Burglaries

Police updates for Monday, July 18. The following information was supplied by the Prince William County police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate a conviction.

A Dale City man was arrested after allegedly firing his shotgun at a neighbor's dog Saturday. Police said the dog ran onto a community parking lot when Paul Richard Ovellette, 59, of 4625 Whitaker Pl., shot at it.

The dog was not injured, and other people who were standing nearby were not injured either.

Ovellette was charged with reckless handling of a firearm. He was released on personal recognizance. Court date information was unavailable.

Boy Robbed

A 14-year-old boy said he was robbed on Sunday by two other boys who threatened to beat him up.

The victim told police the robbery happened around 7:41 p.m. Sunday. He was walking in the 13500 block of Delaney Road on his way home when two other boys came up to him and threatened to beat him up if he did not hand over his money.

The other boys took money from the victim, but no injuries were reported. The victim said he knew one of the boys who robbed him, a 13-year-old. That boy was arrested and charged with robbery. He was held at a juvenile detention facility. Court date information was unavailable. Police said the investigation is continuing.

Burglaries

Video game consoles and other electronics worth a total of about $3,500 were stolen in two separate burglaries in Dale City reported last week.

A PlayStation, two televisions, and DVDs worth about $1,500 were reported stolen from a home in the 2700 block of Landings Point Loop on Friday. The homeowner told police that the burglary had occurred between 9 a.m. on July 14 and 1 p.m. on July 15. Police said entry appeared to have been made through an unlocked front door.

On Thursday, a homeowner in the 4600 block of Prather Place reported that an Xbox an related games worth about $2,000 had been stolen sometime between 5 p.m. on June 26 and 10 a.m. on July 14. Police said entry appeared to have been made through a rear patio door which had been forced open.
