Police: Suspect Struck Detective With Car During Chase

Prince William County Police said that the detective had witnessed a drug deal between the suspect and another person.

A suspect struck a detective with his car while fleeing from the scene of a drug deal, Prince William County Police said.

Kerry Cherone Brown, 34, of Nickleson Drive, Dale City, is charged with malicious injury to a law enforcement officer, felony hit and run, felony eluding and multiple drug charges.

Detectives from the Street Crimes Unit arrested Brown on Friday after they saw a suspicious vehicle at the 7-Eleven on Dale Boulevard in Dale City. Detectives witnessed a drug transaction taking place between the driver of the vehicle—identified as Brown—and another person, said police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.

"As a detective approached, the driver reversed the vehicle away from the detective and then abruptly stopped," Perok said in a press release. "The driver then put the vehicle in drive, accelerating towards the detective. The detective was struck, forcing him onto the hood and windshield area of the vehicle."

When Brown made an abrupt right turn onto Dale Boulevard, the detective was thrown from the vehicle and onto ground, Perok said. Multiple officers responded and found the empty vehicle nearby.

After an investigation, police identified Brown as the driver. The detective was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Brown was located at his residence and arrested without further incident, Perok said. Police also executed a search warrant at his home, where they found crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, evidence of drug distribution, a handgun, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Brown, who is also charged with distribution of a schedule I or II narcotic, possession with intent to distribute a schedule I or II narcotic, possession of a schedule I or II narcotic and possession of a firearm with narcotics, has a court date set for Aug. 16. He is held without bond.
