Police: Fight Broke Out After Robber Pulled Gun
A Dale City man arranged to meet two people to sell a cell phone, but instead pulled out a gun, Prince William County Police said.
Rodney Darryl Martin, 27, of Lacrosse Court in Dale City, is charged with robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted malicious wounding.
Police responded to the 15200 block of Bannon Way on Sunday at 7:25 p.m., where the 15-year-old and 37-year-old men reported the robbery. They told police they had made arrangements to meet an unknown man in the area to buy a phone. Once they were there, Martin pulled out a gun and demanded money, said police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.
"During the encounter, the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. A physical altercation ensued and, at one point, the suspect pointed the handgun towards the victim and pulled the trigger," Perok said in a press release. "The gun did not fire and both victims were able to get away and contact police."
Martin fled on foot after taking a cell phone chip and the victim's car keys, Perok said. Minor injuries were reported.
Police dispatched a K-9, but did not find Martin. Detectives from the Robbery Unit were able to identify him later on, and arrested him at his residence on Lacrosse Court. Police also executed a search warrant at the home.
Martin is held without bond pending a Sept. 25 court date.
