Police arrested a Dumfries man Jan. 20 after he reportedly drove towards oncoming traffic on I-95 near Woodbridge, Prince William County police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said.
Daejon Tyrie Jones, 19, of Dumfries, was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, failure to secure a child in a safety restraint and two counts of felony child neglect.
A police officer tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near Jefferson Davis Highway and Dumfries Road at 3:20 p.m. on Jan. 18. Police identified the driver as Jones. He reportedly ignored the officer's lights and siren and drove onto I-95 northbound, then onto the HOV flyover ramp near the Opitz Boulevard interchange and finally towards oncoming southbound HOV traffic.
The lowered barriers at the end of the ramp stopped the vehicle, and the accused reportedly fled past northbound traffic into the wooded area next to the highway.
Police used a K-9 unit to attempt to find the accused, but did not find him. Officers discovered three other adults and two 2-year-old boys in the vehicle. None were injured.
After an investigation, police got warrants against the accused and arrested him Jan. 20 in Fairfax county.
His court date and bond information is unavailable.
