Prince William County Police said last week that a Dumfries man cut an acquaintance, then assaulted a family member after she tried to intervene.
Farooq Chaudhary, 33, of Larkin Dr. in Dumfries, was charged with malicious wounding and assault and battery. Police responded on Oct. 3 at 1:04 a.m. to the 17100 block of Larkin Dr. in Dumfries. Chaudhary and a "known accquaintance," a 35-year-old woman, were involved in an argument that escalated. Chaudhary grabbed a knife and swung it at the woman, cutting her, police said.
A 45-year-old woman—a family member—attempted to intervene, and Chaudhary allegedly knocked her down. After that, he left the home, police said. The 35-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The 45-year-old reported minor injuries.
Chaudhary turned himself in that same day, after warrants were issued for his arrest.
