Doggie Tales at Dale City Library

The Dale City Neighborhood Library will be starting a new program where children read to therapy dogs.

Giving kids a chance to practice their reading in a safe environment is what the Doggie Tales program is all about, and it's coming to the .

The program, sponsored by the Prince William County Library System and Therapy Dog International, allows children to read their favorite book to a therapy dog. The program has been available at Chinn Regional Library, and will now be available at the Dale City Neighborhood Library on the third Saturday of each month from 11 a.m to noon.

Donna Conti that children find it relaxing to read to her dog, Sophie. Whether the child already enjoys reading or is intimidated to read aloud, Sophie provides a good listener. "They know a dog is not going to judge them," she said.

The event will be held at the Dale City Neighborhood Library for the first time this Saturday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. Children ages 4 through 11 are welcome to come read to a dog, or just visit. No sign-up is required.
