Interfaith Group Hosts Loan Modification Event

An interfaith group is working with Bank of America to help struggling homeowners get a chance to modify their mortgages.

A faith-based group is trying to help Prince William County residents who are struggling with their mortgages renegotiate with their lenders.

Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement has worked with Bank of America to organize a mortgage modification event to help struggling homeowners. Bank of America representatives will be available at the Prince William Association of Realtors this week from Tuesday through Saturday.

Homeowners who wish to have their mortgage reviewed must make an appointment and bring the proper documents. Some may even be able to have a decision made on site.

VOICE worked with Bank of America to bring the event about as part of a campaign in Prince William County to hold banks accountable for the foreclosure crisis. According to VOICE, the Prince William County area has the highest number of foreclosures in the state.

Rev. Clyde Ellis of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Woodbridge said the event is a first step for the bank to take in connecting with the community. "It is an opportunity for the bank to rebuild trust with local families and to do what is right by them," Ellis said.

Ellis said VOICE would track Bank of America's performance at the event and continue to work with them after the event to ensure that all participants received timely answers and continued support.
