AT&T to Expand Broadband in Dale City

The announcement comes as the company is fighting to get its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile approved.

AT&T announced Wednesday that it would upgrade its mobile broadband capacity in an area reaching from Springfield south to Dale City. The carrier said that the enhancement would add layers of frequency at cell sites in the area, effectively allowing more traffic across the broadband network.

The company used the announcement as an opportunity to promote its attempt to acquire T-Mobile. "If approved, this deal means that we'll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband - 4G LTE - from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to more than 97 percent," said J. Michael Schweder, President of AT&T Mid-Atlantic.

The announcement comes as AT&T is in a battle over the proposed merger, which has been opposed by the U.S. Justice Department. Most recently, critics said that AT&T's suggestion that the merger will create up to 96,000 new jobs is "completely unfounded," reports PCWorld.
