Weekend Planner: Fairs, Concerts, and Kids Fishing

Where/When: , 12350 Cotton Mill Dr, Saturday May 14, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Why Go: Children of all ages are welcome to come out to Lake Ridge Park and explore and learn about all of the different parks in the Park Authority.  This is a great way to become familiar with different parks each month in fun and interesting ways.

Where/When: Leesylvania State Park, 2001 Daniel K Ludwig Dr, Saturday May 14, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Why Go: The Navy's premier jazz ensemble will perform some of America's original music.  Make sure to bring a blanket and a picnic to enjoy while listening to the band.  This is a great event for the whole family, and face painting will be available for children.

Pricing: Free.

 Where/When: 5621 Courthouse Rd, Spotsylvania, VA 22551, Saturday May 14 and Sunday May 15, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Why Go: Set in the late 16th Century during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, the New World colony of Stafford features period costume, shopping, music, hands-on historical crafts and re-enactments, archery, and jousting displays for children and adults, as well as food and drink. Leave behind the 21st Century and learn to swing a sword and carry a pike in military drill, practice your long bow skills and learn the fine art of seamanship. Guests may dance the Maypole, attend the Court of Common Pleas, and learn all about the fashion of the period or how a knight suits up for the joust. Children’s activities abound and include crafts such as making a horn book, spinning, weaving and leatherworking as well as a knighting ceremony by the Queen.

Pricing: $9/per person; children 5 years-old and under are free.

Where/When: Potomac Senior High School, 3401 Panther Pride Drive, Dumfries, Saturday May 14, 7:00 p.m. and Sunday May 15, 3:00 p.m.

Why Go: The will present their 15th Annual Spring Show, featuring bagpiper Jamie Fountain. Choral selections in the first half of the show will be Irish, Welsh and Scottish music and the second half will include familiar American folk music and spirituals. We will close the show with "An Old Irish Blessing."

Pricing: $10/adults; $5/students and seniors, 4 years-old and under are free.

 Where/When: , 12350 Cotton Mill Dr, Sunday May 15, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Why Go: Children ages 5 through 13 years old are invited to participate in a fishing tournament at Lake Ridge Park. Children can compete for prizes and have fun trying to catch the most, largest, smallest, or most unusual fish.  Bait will be provided for the children at the park.
