Looking for a great way to spend your weekend? Here are a few events nearby.

1. Opera Lafayette: Le Magnifique

Opera Lafayette is a nationally known performance group bringing the modern premiere of a classic romantic comedy of French opera. Le Magnifique is a chance to bring a touch of class to your weekend plans. Opera Lafayette will play at the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Merchant Hall on Friday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $15, $20 or $25

2. High School sports

C.D. Hylton High School competes in basketball and track on Friday. The district Indoor Track meet will be at Forest Park from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In the evening, the girls’ basketball team will host Potomac and the boys will travel to Potomac. The varsity games start at 7:30 p.m.

3. Rec Center

It’s so hard to stay active in the winter when you can’t get outside. But there are tons of classes available at reasonable prices at the on Minnieville Road.

  • Intermediate/Advanced Judo classes are Friday nights at 7:45 p.m.
  • Aikido (Japanese martial arts) classes are every Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
  • Teen/Adult Soo Bahk Do (also martial arts) classes meet Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
  • Get the kids involved with Tiny Titans “Tri-Athletes” for children to learn about T-ball, soccer, and basketball—Saturdays 9:45 a.m. for 2-3 year-olds or 10:00 a.m. for 4-5 year olds.
  • Also for the kids, Lil’ Olympians Soccer for ages 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7 Saturdays at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. respectively.

4. Winter is TWO Much Fun

Lake Ridge Park hosts this event for 5 through 10 year olds to see the many colors of Winter and find out what animals are doing at this time of year. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $15.

5. "Warm Visions and the Warm Glow of Copper" Art Exhibit

Head over to Occoquan to check out this unique exhibit at the Artists’ Undertaking gallery. The exhibit features nature and scenic photography by Gerry Gantt and copper work by Anne Jordan, and is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
