The Great Escape: Taste of America

Experience the county fair.

As the hottest days of summer wind down and local stores stock up on back-to-school supplies, enjoy the last bits of warmth and freedom at the Prince William County Fair. Held Aug. 12-20 at the county fairgrounds on Dumfries Road in Manassas, the fair features everything necessary for a night on the midway: rides, food, and shows. Nightly grandstand shows include a rodeo, tractor pull, a demolition derby, BMX stunt team, and an open mike night.

Last year’s event had lots of traditional fair food, a tractor barn, and a traveling racing pig team to delight young children. There was plenty of grown up fun as well, including a wrestling night. For those interested in agriculture and home arts competitions, there will be many categories for adults and children alike. Entries and animals will be on display throughout the fair.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. Children 4 years old and under are free. Tickets can also be purchased in advance until Aug. 11 for a lower price of $5 for adults and $4 for children and seniors. Season passes and family tickets are available. Grandstand shows are $2 per person. For more information and a schedule of events, visit the fair’s website.
