The Great Escape: History in Your Backyard

Escape into American History.

This summer, escape into national history by participating in the area’s 150th commemoration of the Battle of Bull Run/Manassas. In a little less than a month, Prince William County will be the focus of historians, tourists, and families from all over the country. So if history’s your thing, don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

The planned events are centered around the third week of July, with most happening the weekend of July 22 through 24. Events will include a two-day reenactment of the first battle of the Civil War, a military parade in Old Town, and a Blue and Gray Ball. A civil war era baseball league will play fourteen exhibition games as well. There will also be a 26-acre military camp set up at Jennie Dean Park while the school by the same name will hold a tablueau and fashion show of era replica gowns including those worn by the Empress of France.

Tickets for the battle’s reenactment start at $24 dollars for adults and $15 for children 6-12. Two-day tickets for bleacher seats are $75 for adults and $57 for children 6-12. More information and purchasing information is here.

Day shuttle passes ($20) are required for all other events except the Blue and Gray Ball, which requires a separate ticket. Passes can be purchased on the Manassas Civil War website here.
