Virginia American Water Seeks Rate Increase
Board of County Supervisors opposes the rate increase.
From Prince William County Government:
Virginia American Water (VAW) has requested a general rate increase of approximately 15.9 percent for the Prince William, Alexandria, Hopewell and Eastern Districts. The portion VAW is requesting for its Prince William District is $1,841,276 amounting to a 24.81 percent increase in rates in the Prince William District.
The company filed for the increase with its regulatory agency, the State Corporation Commission (SCC). The SCC is required to give the public notice of the rate increase and the opportunity to comment.
The Board of County Supervisors opposes this rate increase and encourages all affected residents to voice their opposition, as they had great success last year when VAW attempted to substantially increase their rates.
A hearing date has been set for Sept. 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. The location of the hearing is SCC’s Courtroom in the Tyler Building, 1300 East Main Street, Richmond, VA. Any interested person may attend and speak (it is recommended you arrive at 9:45 a.m.). Additionally, written comments may be submitted on or before September 18, 2012, to Joel Peck, Clerk, State Corporation Commission, c/o Document Control Center, PO Box 2118, Richmond, VA, 23218. Written comments should refer to the specific case number: PUE-2011-00127.
Those wishing to review the Application or Order for Notice and Hearing and/or submit comments online may do so on the SCC website: (http://www.scc.virginia.gov/case/PublicComments.aspx) and scroll down to the case number listing (PUE-2011-00127).
