Teen Faces Attempted Murder Trial
Prosecutors say he shot his father in the head.
A Dale City teen was indicted this week and will face trial as an adult on charges he shot his father in the head in September.
Insidenova.com reports that a grand jury in Prince William Circuit Court indicted Dominique Jordan Singleton, of the 15700 block of Beau Ridge Drive in Dale City, on charges of attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police said Singleton shot his father in the back of the head with a handgun while his father was asleep. The father was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Prince William County Police spokesman Jonathan Perok called it surprising that the 49-year-old victim’s injuries were not worse. “Very lucky, to say the least,” Perok said.
Perok said the shooting was the result of unspecified "past disagreements" between the two.
Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Ebert said in September that the decision to prosecute a minor as an adult is based on the defendent's background and the severity of the charges. Ebert called the charges "pretty egregious," adding, "That usually qualifies them to be certified as adults."
