'Precautionary' Evacuation at Kerrydale Elementary

Students and staff are safe.

 

Update 12:54 p.m.:

From PWCS: "Kerrydale Elementary School students and staff are safe and have re-entered the school following earlier evacuation. The Fire Department has given the all clear to end the precautionary evacuation after a thorough check. All summer school activities resuming (10:59 a.m.)."

Original Post: 

Prince Wiliam County Schools announced Wednesday morning that Kerrydale Elementary School was evacuated as a precaution.

PWCS said the smell of smoke prompted the evacuation.

"All students and staff are safe. The Fire Department is investigating. Stay tuned for further messages as the situation is evaluated," the school system posted on its Facebook page at 10:37 a.m. 

Kerrydale Elementary School in Dale City is a location for site-based summer school that started on July 9.
