Update, 10:44 a.m. May 4:

The pedestrian killed in Thursday's Dale City crash on Dale Boulevard near Forestdale Avenue has been identified as Howard Edward Rice, 42, of Dale City.  

Police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said in a release Friday morning that an investigation revealed two cars were involved in the crash.

Perok said the driver of a 1999 Volvo S70 was traveling eastbound on Dale Boulevard near Forestdale Avenue, Rice was struck by the Volvo as he attempted to cross Dale Boulevard heading towards Forestdale Plaza.

"The driver, and only occupant, of a 2006 Toyota Corolla was also traveling eastbound, directly behind the Volvo, and was unable to avoid the pedestrian after he was struck by the initial vehicle," said Perok. "The pedestrian was determined to have crossed outside of a designated crosswalk in a dimly lit portion of the road."

Speed, drug use and alcohol are not factors in the collision on the part of either driver, said Perok. An autopsy will be completed on Rice. Further details about the victim at the time of the crash will be determined after a toxicology report is completed by the medical examiner.

A 16-year-old was in the Volvo with the driver, identified as an 18-year-old male from Woodbridge. The driver of the Corolla was identified as a 44-year-old Woodbridge man. 

Update, 9:48 p.m.: Police have determined that the crash involved both the pedestrian and one vehicle. 

"The pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene," police spokesperson Jonathan Perok said in a statement.

No one else was injured. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene. Police responded to the report of the crash at 8:40 p.m.

Dale Boulevard Eastbound remains closed while the investigation continues.

Police will release the identity of the victim after notifying his next of kin.

Original Story: An adult male pedestrian died tonight in a crash on Dale Boulevard near Forestdale Avenue, a post on the Prince William County Police Department Facebook page reported.

"Dale Blvd EB will be closed as the investigation continues," the post read.
