Man Charged With Attempted Strangulation

Marcus Rashud Whitehead, of Woodbridge, is charged with attempted strangulation, robbery, assault and battery and grand larceny from a person.

A Woodbridge man is accused of trying to strangle an acquaintance during an argument, Prince William County Police said.

Marcus Rashud Whitehead, 21, of Gordon Boulevard, is charged with attempted strangulation, robbery, assault and battery and grand larceny from a person. The victim sustained minor injuries.

Police responded at 8:07 p.m. Monday to the incident on the 12500 block of Gordon Blvd. The 20-year-old victim, a woman from Temple Hill, Md., reported that she and Whitehead, a known acquaintance, were arguing at his home. The argument escalated and police said that Whitehead forcibly took the victim’s cell phone and assaulted her.

"At one point, the accused attempted to choke the victim," Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the department, said in a press release.

The woman escaped to a neighbor’s residence, where police were contacted. The accused fled the scene before police arrived. After an investigation, officers obtained warrants for his arrest. Officers found Whitehead near his home. Police said he was arrested without incident.
