County Sues DHS Over Immigration Again

Prince William County has filed a second lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security over its handling of illegal aliens.

Prince William County is suing the Department of Homeland Security over illegal immigration—again. The county is demanding that DHS release records of illegal aliens arrested in Prince William County and turned over to DHS.

The county's first lawsuit followed the high-profile case of Carlos Martinelly Montano, a criminal illegal alien who is suspected of killing a benedictine nun while driving drunk in August of 2010.

Prior to that incident, county officials had convicted Montano of DUI, identified him as an illegal alien, and handed him over to DHS for deportation. The county sued DHS to make available records related to Montano's release.

“It is frustrating that we as a local government must resort to suing the Federal Government to get information which the public has a right to know and which is vital to our law enforcement efforts," said County Chairman Corey Stewart in a release.

"I am disappointed in the lack of cooperation and transparency from DHS and I am frustrated with the dismissive attitude of Congress, which has failed to compel DHS to turn over this information," Stewart added. "Frankly, the Republicans in the House of Representatives are just as dismissive as the Obama Administration on this issue.”

According to a Prince William County press release, the county has turned over more than 4,000 criminal illegal aliens to DHS custody.
