Common Grounds Café: Coffee, Community, Quiet

The Common Grounds Café in Dale City is a friendly place with good coffee and food

The Common Grounds Café is a coffee shop with a laid-back community atmosphere, friendly staff and good food and drinks. Owned and operated by Freedom Fellowship Church, the café greets you with an open, welcoming space when you walk in the door.

While specializing in coffee, the café also serves breakfast and lunch, with both menus being available throughout the day.

Comfortable couches and chairs are available for you to enjoy your coffee or food, and plenty of light comes in through large windows. The environment is generally quiet without the buzz of a larger coffee shop, making it a nice place to work using the available free wireless Internet access.

Common Grounds lacks some of the convenience of larger coffee shops, not being open on Sunday or Monday and closing at 3 p.m. throughout the week, but the staff is friendly to customers who decide to hang around. Given the limited staff, you may wait a few minutes for your coffee, and if you order food, expect to sit down and relax for a bit while they prepare your order.

But the lack of convenience is compensated in a great customer experience. The food is quite good and the coffee delicious. Whether you choose to drink your coffee strong and black, or you like mochas, lattes and cappuccinos with a wide variety of flavoring syrups and seasonal recipes available, the drinks are well made and reasonably priced.

The café occasionally hosts local musicians on Thursday nights and has plenty of space for groups that come in throughout the week, such as the regular Friday morning moms' meeting.

If you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere and a quality cup of joe, or a nice place to meet with a group of friends for lunch, Common Grounds Café is a great place to go. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
